The Complete Twelfth Season DVD has been released today in the United States and Canada.
Retailing at $31.99 at Amazon, the set is also available in a Comic Book Guy head version (pictured, right) for slightly cheaper.
Fans who had hoped for updated packaging will be sorely disappointed. The set largely resembles the season 11 box set, with the discs contained within cardboard sleeves once more. That said, the box art is as beautiful as ever, with images taken from a sci fi convention in true Comic Book Guy style.
The set will be released in the UK on September 28th, 2009 and on September 2nd, 2009 in Australia.
Yes. I for one have no quarrel with the packaging and will gladly lap up Matt Groening’s table scraps.
Just to give everyone a solution to the box problem. With season 11’s box I put the 4 discs into those white, square cd envelopes then put them in between the “accordian” flaps. I hope this makes sense. Using this method allows you not to scratch the discs or rip the box trying to get them out.
Dang it! I can’t believe they didn’t change the packaging the packaging. Honestly, what were they thinking!? I’m still excited to get it, though because I think this season is great.

I did that for season 11 and probably will for season 12.

normally dvd boxes help keep the disc unsratched but when i buy them they’re already scratched and half of em won’t play which is why i wont but um but this season is the best one they need these writters back from this season anywho if you wanna risk waiting 30-40 bucks go ahead they come broken but the episodes are funny… maybe if they rerelease it in actually good packaging or do a new packaging bundle of 10-15 maybe.

But i’m not happy that the packaging is still the same, I didn’t like it (I don’t think anyone did though) when I tried to get the DVD’s out, it wasn’t easy to do, and you could scratch the dvd and detroy the cardboard 🙁
Wow, I knew it was ugly but they’ve kept the packaging the same? I’m not touching this one with a 20-foot pole.
I think that it’s time for people who have been working on boxes design for the past seasons to find some other solution for packing disks.
Apparently people are complaining on the way disks are packed and there is absolutely no way to prevent disks from scratching and boxes from reaping apart after some (very short) period.
I think that disks should be packed in separate part of the box, away from the paper accessories, posters and everything else which they usually pack in together. That is the only solution to keep out DVD-s in one piece.
I bought the limited edition one and although it’s similar to the 11th box, they made it easier to get to the disc and not scratch it up.
I will get it eventually. It looks great!

they need the writers back from seasons 3-7, those are by far the best… i dont like anything really past like season 8 it all goes downhill and loses the funny and emotional episodes and just adds zanyness like family guy… but worse
oh and revlovejoy…. you said you wouldnt touch it with a 20 foot pole. tisk tisk i was so sure you would say with a 10 foot clown pole but… guess im just old school or something
The packaging is cool, you just have to be careful how you grab them, the Booklet is very nice as well. Season 12 is better than 11 I think. I love these commentaries and all of the extras, but would like to see more about the show getting made or something, maybe see some more of those animated commentaries.
I’m glad they gave Comic Book Guy his own cover. I always felt he was under-appreciated on the show.
On a separate note, does anyone watch the Simpsons regularly with their family?
Also, do you know anybody who’s NEVER seen the show, or who blatantly HATES it?

I think the “plastic-less” packaging on these sets is a poor excuse for a media company like FOX to claim it is “going green”. Seasons 11 & 12 of the Simpsons, as well as all four of the Futurama movies, use cardboard sleeves to hold the discs. I ended up storing the discs in slimlite CD cases, meaning I cant place them on the shelves next to the other seasons 🙁
I live in the uk and i can’t wait for season 12. I’m gonna get the limited edition version cause it will be my first simpsons head. I can’t wait!
I love this season. I was a bit disappointed by the pacakaging but i’m happy you can get the discs out easier.
