While not fairing as bad as last week’s, last night’s all new episode of The Simpsons still managed to make it on to the least watched episodes of all time list:
- “Million Dollar Maybe” (season 21) – 5.11 million
- “Four Great Women and a Manicure” (season 20) – 5.16 million
- “Postcards From The Wedge” (season 21) 5.23 million
- “Stealing First Base” (season 21) – 5.69 million
- “Lisa the Drama Queen” (season 20) – 5.75 million
Still, with 5.69 million viewers, “Stealing First Base” was indeed up 12% on last week.
A new episode of Family Guy took home the gold for the third consecutive week, with 6.66 million watching; The Cleveland Show was behind The Simpsons with a viewership of 5.04 million. Fox was 4th overall on the night, and 2nd in both the Adults 18-34 and 18-49 Rating/Share.
There was no new episode of American Dad yet again; the show is currently on a hiatus while Fox gives new sitcom Sons of Tucson a chance; however, with ratings dropping below 4 million last night, you could be forgiven for reliving Sit Down, Shut Up’s fate all over again.

That was a hilarious episode! all of the jokes really hit home. I laughed throughout the entire episode. one of the best of the season without a doubt
That was one of the worst simpson’s episodes this season, or of all time. There are a million reasons why it was bad. Here are a couple:
-Since when are there 2 grade 4’s?
-Why would Nelson help a blind kid out?
-why do they have to make bart fall in love every season? and why does he have to ask grampa for advice about girls when he was in love about a million times
-why do they make micheale obama seem more important then she really is? if she wasn’t married to the president then no one would know who she is?
-i didn’t really care for NIkki
all in all a really BAD episode and if you think that it is GOOD then you were probably born yesterday or this is your first simpsons episode!
3/10!
Why are you so rigid? It’s a cartoon; characters/situations are allowed flexibility. Nelson can have more than the one-dimensional bully side. Why can’t Bart fall in love more than once? That does happen to people. Your comment on Michelle Obama is moot. She IS the president’s wife, so she IS important. I also didn’t care that much for Nikki, but I doubt she’ll ever return. Last, I’ve been watching the Simpsons since the Tracy Ullman show, and I liked this latest episode. I think the episodes have been getting better and better that past couple seasons. I think they’re returning to stories/situations with more heart which is part of what made the early seasons so good.
you are so funny you should work for the comedy network HAHA.
If you think that this was a good episode then you must be daft. watch the first ten seasons of the simpsons and compare them to this.
Yea what James said. ITS A CARTOON.If you’re gonna concentrate on something imaginary try GLOBAL WARMING! DUN DUN DUN!!!!!!!!
I think what Marbat is trying to get at is the lack of continuity it seems to show. For example, there has never been a secondary 4th grade in the show. And I don’t think before hand The Simpsons have fallen for such continuity errors either. Marbat does have a point in that.
You’re kidding right Marbat? My elementary school had 2, if not 3, 4th grade classes. Unless you’re referring to where this second 4th grade class at Springfield Elem. came from? In any case, we’ve really only seen Bart and Lisa’s 4th and 2nd grade classes in the past 20 years. So who’s to say there arent more classes that are just never mentioned on the show? I know off the top of my head that we saw some other grades were when Sideshow Bob transferred Bart back to kindergarten and when Bart and Lisa were put into the same 3rd grade class.
Nelson always cracks me up because he’s still a bully at times but is really sensitive because his dad left him. Keep in mind his dad hasnt always been gone. I think the last time we saw him was when the kids were all playing in the pee-wee football league and he picked up Nelson after winning the game and told him he was taking him to Hooters.(where Mrs. Muntz works) Nelson started getting more emotional once he claimed his dad “went to the store and never came back.”
Overall, I enjoyed this episode and laughed at many things. Homer choking Principal Skinner dressed up as Bart practically had me rolling on the floor with laughter. It’s a shame more people didnt watch it.
I thought the episode was GOOD and I wasnt born yesterday.
are you kidding me? the simpsons world changes all of the time. your an idiot if you think it’s bad that things don’t run smoothly from episode to episode. seriously, go through the simpsons episodes, and there are about a million contradictory situations and statements. jesus dude, it was a funny ass episode. literally every person i have talked to about this episode liked it, not even joking or exaggerating. and no, i didn’t just talk to one person. get a sense of humor
bobby asking the mirror if it was a good episode doesn’t count. Most people here say it was a bad episode except for a few wanna be simpsons fans, including you.
Sorry, but because Bobby and his friends liked the episode doesnt make them “wanna be” fans. Fans will find joy in whatever they watch or listen to on a regular basis, even if others dont share their opinions.
I dont really ever laugh at new Family Guy episodes, but thats mainly because I’m not a fan of the show anymore. There are still people I know that watch Family Guy every week and still think it’s the funniest thing on TV, even though I cant understand why. But I do know this, they are fans of F.G. and the show makes them feel happy.
So if anybody is the “wanna be” Simpsons fan, it’s you Marbat. Sure you like the first 10 seasons of the show, but you clearly arent a fan of the show anymore because it does not make you happy like it used to. If Me, Bobby, Ashley, etc. can still find happiness in the new episodes, then we are definately fans and appreciate the material more than other people.
Bullshit writing. You DON’T CALL BOYS KIDS EXCLUSIVELY. In fact, you shouldn’t even use it. No one should because it is an evil word. Why didn’t you call the blind boy Nelson was helping a boy? Bart does not fall in love in many seasons. It is a bad episode but to be frank, you are a BAD faggot.
Weird, you either really love this episode or you really hate it!
I think it was a brilliant one, it’s the first simpsons episode i’ve watch in a while were i’ve been laughing all the way through. I suppose it had sort of a strange ending but hilarious parts!
i don’t really like an episode or really hate it, considering the standards that the simpsons give us now, it was really rubbish.
Mike Scully- “Lower your quality standards. Once you’ve done that you can go on forever.”
Homer Simpson- “Awww! It just gets worse and worse!”
Krusty The Clown- “I can pull a better cartoon out of my a– Hey! Hey! Wasn‘t that funny, boys and girls?”
How many times must old plots be re-hashed and how many times must the quality of a show decline before they put it out of its misery?
I guess we’re expected to keep lowering our quality standards and expectations of The Simpsons as each season passes. I don’t know about the rest of you, but I for one am not going to. I know that The Simpsons have been on for over 20 years. I don’t expect them to be as good as they were in their golden years. I just highly believe that the show could be way better than it is now. Like I said before, the writers today are just lazy. I miss the old writers who actually cared about putting their best effort into the show.
This episode was really lame. They took a half assed B plot and tried making it into an A plot. Bart has had enough girlfriends already anyway. I hope that Bart really did swear off women forever and that this will be the last of what we’ll see on Bart’s love life. The B plot really sucked too. Like someone said before, if they’re going to have a political figure on The Simpsons, at least make fun of them.
I have been a fan of the show since birth, but I’m really starting to lose faith in the quality of the new episodes. Some of the future episode plots sound pretty good, but I bet today’s writing staff will manage to screw them up somehow. They’ll probably care more about cramming in a bunch of lame jokes than actually making the episodes good.
good episode
Hilarious! Absolutely hilarious!
I couldn’t stop laughing when Principal Skinner had to kiss wille and all the kids kept laughing!
And i loved how they went through different movie scenes when Nikki kissed Bart.
Best epiode of Season 21 so far!
not the best but one of the best epiodes of season 21
(sorry for my english )
no. just no.
All of the plot elements were reused. Some jokes landed, but the Bart in love thing is SO overdone.
Also, what has happened to Nelson lately. He used to be a bully with the occasional glimpse of a softer rather bizarre side, now that seems to be all we see.
Thank You! whats up with that? i remember when every kid was scared of him,and now he acts like a wimp?
although i agree wiv u i still liked that bit wen he sed “hes the master” kool bit.:)
im getting SO sick of bart’s crushs
he has a new one every season
how old is he 10?!?!
6.66 for Family Guy? I’m hoping its just a coincidence 😉
I agree with a lot of points on here, a few continuity issues and the point about Nelson is spot on. Get him back to hitting a few people for money and stuff (not that I condone it kids).
since when is continuity an issue on the simpsons? the simpsons universe is constantly changing and contradicting itself. it has since the very beginning.
i dont know y people r goin on about that the new simpsons episodes r rubbish, there the same AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!
I fort it was a gud episode and marbat… simpsons rule and i wasnt born yesterday (not copyrite from dick dangerous0 🙂
It seems to me that most of the people who praise the current crap on The Simpsons are idiots that can’t even spell correctly. It really gives a bad name to Simpson fans. Just look at anonymous kid. He/she must be either four years old or just really stupid. You’re not even intelligent enough to spell correctly so no wonder you praise this garbage. Your retardation clouds your judgment.
THERE the same amazing? It was a GUD episode? Copyrite? Wiv? Kool?
Even if you’re doing that on purpose, you’re still that much of an idiot to do so.
I liked the first half better than the second.. there were some pretty good Ralphisms and I really loved the itchy and Scratchy 3D movie scene (I cant believe no one else mentioned it) If nothing else at least the animation on the show has been getting dramatically better. I thought that they completely wasted sarah silverman on that episode though, I don’t think she said one funny thing. I also wish they’d stop trying so hard to be current by throwing in all these things in every episode like the wii, iphones, ipods, gps systems etc. it seems like they’re trying too hard to be relevant.
..oh and get rid of nelsons “Ha Ha” and Homer strangling bart those gags have had their run and they’re just annoying now.
I’m still glad they use the HAW HAW and Homer strangling Bart. They’ve been pretty clever with Nelson’s HAW HAWs, like the Canadian Nelson from a few weeks ago saying HOO HOO.
And Homer choking Bart always makes me laugh because he can still get away with it, even in todays world of “it’s not ok to spank your kids.”
Besides, Homer strangling Skinner dressed as Bart is such a brilliant idea that I’m suprised it hasnt been done before. Homer hasnt really encountered too many people dressed as Bart,(I know Smithers did one time) but they took a gimmick Homer was famous for and put a fun twist on it, in my opinion.
In fact, they were pretty clever with it in last week’s episode when Homer was trying to squeeze and pull back the brake lever to stop the Subway train, but couldnt. So he just imagined Bart’s head on the top of the lever so that he would be angry enough to squeeze the lever back to stop the train.
Maybe some of you guys arent true Simpsons fans if gags like these are “horrible and utterly forgettable.”
I forgot about canadian nelsons hoo hoo, that was pretty funny. Those kinds of clever twists I like on occasion but I’m definitely opposed to the standard strangle and ha ha at this point, just my opinion.
And I am surely a true Simpsons fan.
Using the strangling gag is no longer funny. I recall in The Simpsons Movie, when I went to see it, the crowd went dead silent when Homer strangled Bart on the roof.
It’s an overused gag, in my opinion.
Nelsen’s “Ha ha” joke only manages a smirk from me on the rarest of occasions.
No wonder the writers these days just aren’t trying; yonng Simpsons fans of today simply have no attention spans.
Theater crowds are different. I saw the movie twice, 1 week apart from each viewing, and both crowds laughed loudly and applauded Homer choking Bart.
Like I said, writers continue to use the choking gag or the HAW HAW gag because some fans still laugh at it, even if some of you dont find it funny anymore.
Shit, my dad has been watching The Simpsons from the very beginning and the choking gag still makes him bust out laughing. Thats a win in my book.
Horrible episode. Just horrible. Completely and utterly forgettable.
It couldn’t have been completely forgettable because you took the time to come on here and leave your obnoxious post 3 days after the show aired.
Obnoxious? Once again, I’m entitled to my own opinion.
Here’s my question to you Brian, while I’m not trying to turn this into a Simpsons vs. Family Guy rant, did you like Family Guy’s episode more than the Simpsons?
That has no relation to this whatsoever.
Now can we please DROP this repetitive crap every week.
i remember when the simpsons used to average around 15-20 million viewers per episode, now they can barely get it passed 5 million. Is it because the quality of the episode is bad or have all of the simpson’s fans died? my guess is that the writers are too lazy to think of anything good, so they put in the first idea that pops into their heads, they put random celebrities, and random modern items(ipods, twitter, wii…)and try and make an episode. But by making such crappy episodes they lose the real simpsons fans that have been watching since 7G08: Simpsons Roasting On An Open Fire.
The shows quality isn’t the only thing affecting the ratings, people don’t watch TV like they used to… hell I’m shocked they can even get those 5 mill to watch on sunday when you can catch it later in so many other ways when ever you want for free or on dvd. Family Guy is pretty much still in its prime and they only average about a million more viewers per show and sometimes much less.
i just read through the above comments and have to say this…
man—you guys have no sense of fun anymore.
that’s why the simpsons are falling apart and why they’re not popular anymore.
you’re all so fucking boring and miserable since 9/11.
this country is a joke full of hyper serious A.D.D. ‘ed out idiots on their cell phones—go back to american idol and leave the simpsons alone.
————
AGAIN—These new episodes are frickin GENIUS!
totally spastic totally random and yet completely honest and full of soul and character.
loved the new girl. she was perfect for bart. totally psycho.
it all makes sense to me man! 5/5!
I’m glad someone else gets it. I thought I was alone.
your the one who has A.D.D. watch every simpsons episode then compare them to this garbage.
Ohhh, I get it now! An American would only have a negative opinion of the current Simpsons because of his/her misery brought on by 9/11, and not because the show keeps declining in quality. There’s no other explanation for it. Americans base their opinions of a cartoon show on a terrorist attack that happened 9 years ago. It makes perfect sense to me now. I probably didn’t see it until now because of my A.D.D. I’m such a moron! Thank you for showing me the light, Devix.
End it. END IT NOW.
The Cleveland Show?
quoteing comic book guy:
“worst episode ever!”
I’m just catching up on a few weeks worth of episodes now online… I thought this was a great episode. My friends and I all enjoyed it.
A dozen haters on this website mean nothing and account for nothing.. I hope you don’t live your lives so negatively. Get a life, get laid, get some culture.
If a dozen haters on this website mean nothing and account for nothing, then the same thing can be said about the people who praised the episode. Your opinion is no more or no less valid than anyone else’s.
Also, why is it that these immature people tell strangers on the internet to get a life or get laid? That’s just ridiculous because such moronic assumptions can be said about anyone on the internet.
Stop raping your mother, Robert.
That’s just as stupid of an assumption as the ones you just made about people, just because their opinions are different from yours. That’s pretty immature of you. It also shows that you aren’t very intelligent. You can’t defend the episode with any form of intelligence so you just ramble on with your irrelevant crap. Great job.
…Yet another person who gives a bad name to Simpson fans.
