Archbishop of Canterbury Dr Rowan Williams would look “very seriously” at an invitation to appear on animated comedy The Simpsons. The Sunday Times reported the show’s producers were poised to invite the head of the Church of England on to the animated show. Dr Williams has admitted he is a big fan of the show. “We’d look at it very seriously – it would be a very interesting thing to do,” his spokesman told BBC. Dr Williams gave an interview to ITV1’s My Favourite Hymns saying the programme was “on the side of the angels”, the Sunday Times reported. Dr Williams has previously publicly announced his support for the show, and its accident-prone star, Homer. The Simpsons producer Al Jean reportedly said they had been flattered by Dr Williams’ support and “we’d love to have him on the show”. Read More >>>

Simpsons / Friends Crossover
Warning: The following story originated from British tabloids, previously famous for spreading news of a David Beckham cameo that wasn’t to be, and are generally unreliable. The six actors from Friends are to reunite for an episode of The Simpsons, the Daily Star newspaper reports today. In the episode – which has been rushed into production for transmission early next year – the cast will provide voices of guests at a gay resort accidentally booked by the Simpsons family. “The writing team has worked overtime to produce the perfect script,” an unnamed source said (convincing, huh). “It’s funny but shocking, with all six playing gay characters.” The episode is said to be lined up for a possible post-Superbowl airing on FOX. Personally I wont believe a word of it until I hear it from a reliable source, and you should do the same.

Gervais Turns Down Simpsons
Ricky Gervais has turned down a part in The Simpsons and a string of big-money US deals because he wants to stay in Britain. The 42-year-old star of The Office was flooded with Hollywood offers after the show won two Golden Globe awards. The deals included The Simpsons role and his own major network show. But Gervais said: “I don’t want to pop up as a Mr Brit on every other television programme. I need to go home to where it rains.” His only US TV role will be as a bomb maker in the spy show Alias, which will be shown in the spring, says The Sun. He will write and produce the American version of The Office before concentrating on a sitcom about insurance salesmen.

David Brent Heading To Springfield
Ricky Gervais of BBCs “The Office” is reportedly going to revive his role as David Brent in a cameo for The Simpsons. The Sunday Mirror says Gervais has been snapped up to appear in the cartoon after his success at the Golden Globes. He will join Homer and Marge after getting lost on holiday in America. The Office won two gongs at the Golden Globe Awards – Best TV Comedy and Best Comedy Actor for Gervais. A Simpsons insider tells the paper: “Since then America has gone David Brent crazy. Matching him and Homer will be comedy genius – a perfect pairing.” After all the false claims about David Beckham scoring a guest role on The Simpsons, we’re not sure whether this article holds much truth, but if we do find out any more we’ll be sure to let you know first.

David Beckham.. Re-Rejected?
After Hello magazine published a tidbit on David Beckham scoring a role in The Simpsons, we were quick to follow and so did countless other British media sources. It was inevitable that the creators of The Simpsons would hear this eventually, and Al Jean was just as shocked to hear the news as we were. David Beckham WILL NOT appear in The Simpsons. The producer took time out to personally inform snpp.com contributor Jonah Flynn that Beckham had not scored a cameo and any information saying otherwise is 100% untrue. A week’s worth of chatter is probably enough to keep the rumor alive for years, so be sure to spread the word, and hopefully this’ll be the last time you see Beckham’s head on our front page.

Beckham Rejected Accepted
We previously reported that champion sportsman David Beckham had been rejected to appear on The Simpsons. Hello! magazine has today reported otherwise. “Star footballer David Beckham is following in the footsteps of famous Brits from Prime Minister Tony Blair to Mick Jagger, with his animated alter-ego making a one-off appearance on TV cartoon hit The Simpsons. While he was passed up for a cameo earlier this year for not being famous enough stateside, the athlete’s whirlwind PR tour of the US apparently had the desired effect. With David’s popularity now on the rise, producers of the popular programme have had a change of heart.” It is likely that Beckman’s appearance will be in next year’s Season 16.

Another Death On The Line?
Sci-Fi Online have published an article based on info supposedly leaked by a source close to The Simpsons, on the death of another character. “A source close to the production of The Simpsons has leaked some information about a future episode which may cause concern for fans of the animated series. “At the moment, and this may change, we are looking into the possibility of killing off one of our regular characters,” said our source. It has been hinted that it may be Grandpa, Moe or Principal Skinner who we wave goodbye to in the not too distant future. “We are just kicking the idea around at the moment,” said our source. “I don’t know how popular this will make us with our audience. If it is handled right, it could be an extremely moving episode.” Hmm. Rumors are rumors, so we’re throwing this one out there. The article is being discussed on this board. Thanks to John Cruz for alerting me. Read More >>>

Second Chance For Becks?
Reportedly, the producers of The Simpsons dropped plans for Beckham to feature in an episode on the grounds that he wasn’t famous enough in the US. They may soon be amending their guest list, after his name is getting exposure as part of the movie title ‘Bend It Like Beckham’, released in America recently. “This is the ‘tipping point’ for David Beckham in the United States,” says Marc Ganis, the president of SportsCorp, a Chicago consultancy. He was echoing the title of a recent book about that indefinable moment when a fad turns into a mega-trend. “He won’t achieve the sporting status of a Michael Jordan or a Namath, but he’s poised to become part of the popular culture of the US.” Read More >>>

Becks Not Famous Enough
“British soccer sensation David Beckham has been kicked into touch for a cameo role on The Simpsons – because he is not famous enough. Creators of the show were planning to approach him to see if he would agree to be written into the cartoon. But executive producer Al Jean said Beckham was barely known to audiences in the United States, where the series is made. Speaking in London, Jean said “We thought about Becks but soccer isn’t as big over there. He’s not really famous enough. We thought about it, we didn’t ask. I’ve heard of him because my daughter plays soccer.” He was to be approached to appear in a special with Homer and co, set in London. Notable guest voices for the programme to be screened in the future include Sir Ian McKellen and Harry Potter creator JK Rowling, both playing themselves.” Original Story >>>

Harry Potter On Simpsons?
Daniel Radcliffe has said he really wants to voice a character in The Simpsons. The Harry Potter star was in Japan to promote Chamber of Secrets which has just opened there and was almost mobbed by adoring fans in Tokyo! More than a thousand screaming girls (and Nick Laws) turned up to the airport to meet Daniel who’d never been to Japan before. Later, he told a roomful of journalists: “I really, really want to be a voice on the Simpsons.” Read More >>>

Make Way For The Osbournes
The Simpsons could have some tough rivals on their hands. The cult reality TV show The Osbournes is being turned into a Simpsons-like cartoon comedy series. Sources report the network are eager to establish the format in view of Ozzy’s wife Sharon’s current battle with cancer. The source reveals that the program producers believe the family perfectly matches the characters in the Simpsons – with Ozzy and Sharon as Homer and Marge, whereas Kelly is tipped for a Bart type role. Ozzy has already appeared animated in shows such as The Simpsons (pictured) and South Park. Read More >>>
