Matt Groening Sees No End In Sight
As The Simpsons began its eighteenth season last night, fans will be glad to know that creator Matt Groening sees no end in sight for the show. “My attitude at this point is, as long as the people who work on the show are having a good time, let’s keep doing it,” he said. “We’ve always tried to entertain ourselves and figured that the outside world would be entertained if we were making ourselves laugh.”
The key is to keep surprising the audience, which he acknowledged has become tougher because the show has “covered a lot of territory” through the years. “But there’s a really good-natured spirit of competitiveness among the youngest writers on the staff who basically grew up watching the show and have a great memory for everything that’s gone before.”

Groening Ponders Future Of Show
It’s a cliche for reporters to ask the creator of a long-running TV show about his favorite episodes, and the cliched response is for the creator to say that he loves them all and can’t possibly single out one or two. Yet, upon meeting “The Simpsons” creator Matt Groening on Monday at a party celebrating the show’s 350th episode, the temptation to ask the favorites question was too hard to resist. Happily, he didn’t give the usual non-answer, rattling off a list of his top secondary characters — Apu, Squeaky-Voiced Teen, Ralph Wiggum and Kirk among them — and episodes he loves. “I don’t have a single favorite. There’s a bunch I really like,” Groening says. “I love ‘Bart Sells His Soul.’ I love the one where we had Frank Grimes. And I like an episode we have coming up where Bart converts to Catholicism (which has been rescheduled as the Season Finale on May 15th. Read More >>>

Groening Says No To Live Action
Talk about contradiction. Today’s report from BBC (a quality, trusted source) overrides anything you read in yesterday’s news post. “Matt Groening, the man behind ‘The Simpsons’ has revealed he’s turned down a proposal to make a feature length episode starring real actors. He reckons fans of the show would hate the idea, but he is pledging to make an animated Simpsons movie. Despite rumours that it’s coming to an end after sixteen years, Matt reckons as long as the creative talent is still flowing, ‘The Simpsons’ could be here to stay for a long time: “At this point I don’t think there’s any end in sight. I once said a few years ago that I thought I was closer to the end than the beginning, meaning that, we’d been on air for ten or twelve years at the time and I thought we’d be on another ten years.” “So I don’t want to give anybody the wrong idea. Of course the show will end eventually, but not for a long, long time.”
