Isabel Sanford Dies At 86
Actress Isabel Sanford, best known as “Weezie,” Louise Jefferson on the television sitcom “The Jeffersons,” died of natural causes, her publicist said Monday. She was 86. Sanford died Friday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where she had been hospitalized since July 4, said Brad Lemack. Her daughter, Pamela Ruff, was at her side, he said. Her health had waned after undergoing preventive surgery on a neck artery 10 months ago, Lemack said. He did not give a cause of death. Sanford co-starred with Sherman Hemsley from 1975 to 1985 on CBS’ “The Jeffersons,” a spin-off of the popular series “All in the Family,” in which she also appeared. She appeared on The Simpsons earlier this year as herself in the episode Milhouse Doesn’t Live Anymore, as an episode narrator and tourguide at the museum of television.

Yeardley Takes English Flight
Lisa Simpson is to cry aloud for Cornwall’s independence from Britain in a special Christmas episode of The Simpsons, according to campaigners. The plot has been revealed by a group that says it has been asked to give the character lessons in the Cornish language. Cornwall is Britain’s southernmost county and had a population of 499,000 people in 2001. Matthew Clarke, of the Cornish Language Fellowship, said he was contacted last week by the producers of the US cartoon series who wanted a translation of the phrase “Freedom for Cornwall now”. “They wanted Lisa to take up the call for Cornish independence,” he said. “It is probably one of the better inquiries we have had.” The segment has now been recorded by Yeardley Smith, the voice behind Lisa, and the show is set to go out in Britain as an alternative to the Queen’s traditional Christmas message. Interview With Harry Shearer
Brokennewz.com has scored an interview with Harry Shearer, who provides the voice of Mr Burns, Ned Flanders and Principal Skinner just to name a few. “Harry Shearer first caught my attention in the 80’s during his days on SNL. His writing talents and on air appeal kept me captivated, which in turn inadvertently kept me following his career. Spinal Tap, Godzilla, Wayne’s World 2, are just a few of the films you have seen him shine. The 90s launched him to further cult status with the many voices that he uses to bring the Simpsons to life. It is a great privilege for us at Broken Newz to steal a few moments of Mr. Shearer’s time to talk, and worship.” Read The Interview >>>

Archbishop May Guest Star
Archbishop of Canterbury Dr Rowan Williams would look “very seriously” at an invitation to appear on animated comedy The Simpsons. The Sunday Times reported the show’s producers were poised to invite the head of the Church of England on to the animated show. Dr Williams has admitted he is a big fan of the show. “We’d look at it very seriously – it would be a very interesting thing to do,” his spokesman told BBC. Dr Williams gave an interview to ITV1’s My Favourite Hymns saying the programme was “on the side of the angels”, the Sunday Times reported. Dr Williams has previously publicly announced his support for the show, and its accident-prone star, Homer. The Simpsons producer Al Jean reportedly said they had been flattered by Dr Williams’ support and “we’d love to have him on the show”. Read More >>>

“D’oh!” Tops British Catchphrases
Homer Simpson’s emphatic exclamation “D’oh!” has topped a British poll of favorite TV comedy catchphrases, easily beating an array of home-grown classics. The bumbling hero of American animated TV series “The Simpsons” — who often accompanies his trademark saying with a slap to the forehead — topped Nuts Magazine’s poll with 34% of the vote. “Doh” has even found a home in the Oxford English Dictionary, which defines it as: “Expressing frustration at the realization that things have turned out badly or not as planned or that one has just said or done something foolish. Also implying that another person has said or done something foolish.” The rest of the poll’s top 10, published Wednesday, all come from British television hits. Read More >>>

Simpsons A Scientific Revelation
TV shows such as The Simpsons and Star Trek could be the best way of teaching science to children, Scottish researchers have claimed. Examples from comedy and drama shows are being used in classrooms to demonstrate how issues such as recycling, solar power and DNA tests relate to real life. Researchers at the Institute for Science Education in Scotland say children learn more effectively when they see the practical application of paternity tests and fingerprinting on Eastenders and The Bill. Project leader Dr Fiona Scott said: “The Simpsons has been used quite a lot. I think the people that write it are quite scientifically minded and understand quite a few of the issues. One episode describes an environmental problem when Homer falls out with the rubbish collection people and the waste piles up in their home. There is a lot more science on television than you realise. Read More >>
