Sundays episode of The Simpsons entitled “Take My Life, Please”—will include the first full, permanent revamp of the show’s opening titles since its premiere in 1989. The titles were slightly modified for its second season but some pieces of animation were left over. Above are preview pictures from the new opening, which gives the titles a style similar to that of The Simpsons Movie.

Promo: Take My Life, Please
Is this your first look at the new High Definition opening credits? Fox has today released a promotional image for ‘Take My Life, Please‘ which will be the first episode broadcast in HD on February 15. As promised, there will be numerous references to the last 19 seasons dotted around the credits, replacing characters such as Jacques and Bleeding Gums Murphy who have forever been prominent in the show’s opening despite their deaths or lack of appearance.

Ratings: Drama Queen’s All Time Low
An extended mid-season break has bitten The Simpsons dearly in the ratings, with Sundays episode ‘Lisa The Drama Queen’ fetching just 5.75 million viewers at 8:00pm, a new all time low for the show. The previous record low was last season’s “Mona Leaves-a” which had 6.02 million viewers. The previous lowest ranking episode for this season was “The Burns and the Bees” which had 6.19 million viewers, now fifth least-watched of all time.

Promo: Lisa The Drama Queen
A new promotional image for ‘Lisa The Drama Queen’, which airs January 25, has been released by Fox. Lisa meets equally academic and creative new friend Juliet (guest-voice Emily Blunt) and together they construct a fantasy world that takes them both a little too far from reality.

Groening Defends Muslim Storyline
Matt Groening has defended a controversial storyline in the episode “Mypods and Boomsticks” which saw Homer Simpson accuse his Muslim neighbors of terrorism. A spokesperson for Britain’s The Islamic Cultural Centre & The London Central Mosque slammed the episode, telling UK newspaper the Daily Star, “I hope Muslims take no notice of the show.” But Groening has come out in defence of the episode, saying, “Cartoons deal in stereotypes. We try to be sensitive.”

Ratings: The Burns And The Bees
Last nights episode ‘The Burns And The Bees’ had 6.19 million viewers, which places it as the least watched episode of Season 20. The episode is now the fourth least watched episode of all time, just narrowing out last seasons ‘Any Given Sundance’ (6.18 million), while long standing positionee ‘The Way We Weren’t’ which had 6.20 million viewers back in 2004, sits at #5.

New Episode: The Burns And The Bees
The final episode of Season 20 for 2008, ‘The Burns & The Bees’ airs tonight. Mr. Burns wants to build a new sports arena for his new NBA team, the former Boston Celtics (which he won in a poker game), but Lisa is against it because it would destroy the last bee colony in Springfield; Homer tries to solve the problem by mating the bees – with “killer” Africanized bees .

Ratings: Mypods & Boomsticks
A total of 8.0 million viewers tuned in to Sunday night’s episode ‘Mypods & Boomsticks’. This makes it the second least watched episode of the season, edging out ‘Lost Verizon’ which had 7.43 million. FOX was a distant fourth overall for the night both overall and in the target 18 – 49 demographic. The Simpsons/King Of The Hill came in fourth place at 8:00.

Mypods And Boomsticks airs tonight in North America. The Simpsons take a trip to the Springfield Mall where Lisa gets her very own Mypod. Meanwhile, Homer offends Bart’s new friend Bashir but when he goes to his home to apologize, he instead snoops around their house, uncovering what he believes to be a terrorist plot to blow up the Springfield Mall.

Man Jailed For “Spider Pig” Insults
A UK man has been jailed for breaching the peace by singing the Spider Pig song from The Simpsons Movie at police officers. David Mullen was sentenced to three months for the incident and calling an officer “ginger” in a police van. He claimed he was singing the song because it was the ringtone on his mobile phone.
